At the end of April each year, children in Year 4 at Seaside Primary get the chance to spend a week (Monday to Friday) on the Isle of Wight. The children stay in a hotel which offers rooms for two, three or four pupils, all with ensuite toilets and showers. The food, which includes a full cooked English breakfast each morning for those who want it, is excellent and there is lots of it!
Over the week, the children get to take part in a whole range of activities.
There are walks with spectacular views along Culver Cliff and over Tennyson Down to explore the geography of the island. There is always a great sense of achievement when the children look back and see how far they have walked!
The children try their hand at rock-pooling along Bembridge Ledges and are amazed at what they catch! There are educational visits to the Needles Battery Museum, Osborne House, the Dino Isle dinosaur museum (with a fossil hunt on Sandown Beach) and a ride on a steam train as part of the Steam Railway Experience at Havenstreet.
Towards the end of the visit, the children round off their action-packed week with a day at Robin Hill Adventure Park, having a go on the Colossus Boat Ride, visiting the 4D cinema, trying out the Hill Billy slides, taking in birds of prey shows and much more!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
