Why choose New Horizons Seaside Primary?

Why choose New Horizons Seaside Primary for your child?

Welcome to New Horizons Seaside Primary. We are a large, three-form entry primary school located in South Lancing, just a short distance from the sea. Everything we do at the school is intended to ensure that your child is happy, loves learning and makes fantastic progress in all aspects of school life. We want our children to believe in themselves and feel that anything is possible.

We know that each child is different and has talents that are unique. At Seaside, we aim to deliver an exciting curriculum that motivates, engages and enthuses every single child each day. We are incredibly proud of our children and their achievements; we feel the children here are amazing!

Please read on below to see why we believe you should entrust your child to us and click here to watch a short video about our school on our Trust website. Our Children: Children at New Horizons Seaside Primary are always more than just a name and number. All our staff take great pride in the way we get to know all our children and we are proud of how polite, well-mannered and hardworking they are throughout the school day. They are also a credit to us and to you when out on day visits or on our residential trips. Children at New Horizons Seaside Primary make fantastic progress be it academic, personal or social. Our children love coming to school – just watch them racing in through the gate each morning!

Our Ethos: We are a highly inclusive school, passionate about turning our ethos into an everyday reality:

Everybody Matters, Everybody Succeeds

We focus on all children and have excellent and robust provision in place for those children with a whole range of SEND and those who are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“I just wanted to email you and thank you again! I had the pleasure of watching my child in the Christmas nativity, she was incredible, she actually sang all the words and was doing the actions. NONE of this would be possible without you all! The biggest compliment I can pay you as a school is that no-one in that audience would have sensed my child’s additional needs. This isn’t just the work that has gone on for the play, this is the work that each and every one of you do every day to build a relationship with my child, for her to trust in you, every 1:1, every group, every interaction. Really – thank you all so much again!”

Our Teachers: We only employ teachers who we know will put your child first – our dedicated teaching team go above and beyond their work in the classroom to offer your child a wealth of cost-free after-school interest clubs and extra-curricular activities, accompany your child on our residential trips and so much more.

Our Teaching Support Staff: All our staff are always deployed to meet the needs of our children; the children are never grouped to satisfy the needs of the staff. This includes the support provided by our well-trained team of Teaching Assistants, our own Speech and Language specialists and our two Learning Mentors. All our children get regular support and benefit from working with our teaching assistants, not just those pupils with SEND.

Our Curriculum: At New Horizons Seaside Primary, we have a very clear Knowledge Led Curriculum, carefully designed to ensure that your child has access to well-planned, well-resourced and engaging lessons across the full breadth of the National Curriculum.

Our DREAMS: We are committed to helping your child reach their full potential, in terms of academic achievement and personal development, fostering and nurturing the key DREAMS Attitudes for Life in your child as they go through our school, setting them up for success in their next steps in education and life:

                                                              Diligence

                                                              Resilience

                                                              Enthusiasm

                                                              Aspiration

                                                              Motivation

                                                              Self-Belief

Our Track Record: In the core subjects of English and maths at Key Stage 2, our results are consistently well above both the national average and other local schools. We are all committed to maintaining all aspects of our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted grade.

Our 118 Exploring New Horizons Enrichment Activities: We offer your child the chance to access our unique 118 Exploring New Horizons enrichment activities over their time here, from holding a sparkler at our Year R Bonfire Night to learning to body board on our Year 6 residential in Cornwall. These are commemorated by your child as they move up through the school in a glossy bound book which they keep as a treasured memento once they move on to secondary school.

Our Families: We care what happens to our families and see our schools as the heart of the community we serve. We are a highly approachable team. Members of the Senior Leadership Team are out on the gates each morning before school and as a staff, we work tirelessly to support our families in helping to provide the best possible outcomes for our children. We operate an open door policy to parents. What this means is in reality is, if there is a problem, our staff will deal with it as soon as possible. Everybody concerned wants the same thing, namely the best thing for the children.

"I have dealt with many schools over the last twenty-five years with my own children down to these little ones we have at Seaside now. I can put my hand on my heart and say New Horizons Seaside Primary is the very, very best. The schooling, opportunities and support is out of this world. I wish it had been around when my older ones were younger. If people ask about the schools in the area – ours is the very best, your child could not do better. New Horizons Seaside Primary is not just a school, it’s a community, a family that me and mine have the privilege to be a part of.”

Our Residential Experiences: You need to look no further than our residential offer to see our commitment to your child’s personal development in action. A sleepover at school in Year 3, is followed by a four-night hotel stay on the Isle of Wight in Year 4. This leads into a four-night camp in the New Forest in Year 5 and finally a five-night camp in Cornwall in Year 6, all jam-packed with character building activities and opportunities. We also work hard to support you as a parent / carer, by running these at as low a cost as possible.

Our Family-Friendly May Half-Term: At New Horizons Seaside Primary, we have taken the innovative step of grouping all our INSET Days into a one-week block and attaching this to the West Sussex half-term week. This means our families can benefit from vastly reduced prices for a well-earned family holiday avoiding the fixed penalty notice fines and your child missing out on valuable time in school.

Our Learning Environment: We provide a safe, purpose-built and modern learning environment for your child, with engaging classrooms, two libraries, a food technology room, a small and large hall, a computing suite and lots of space to take the learning outside onto our generous grounds. We are also only a ten-minute walk from the beach, opening up a whole new world of additional learning experiences.

Our Wrap Around Care: We offer flexibility to you, our working parents and carers, by providing your child with Wrap Around Care through our Breakfast and After School Clubs. These clubs are run by our own staff who know all the children well and provide a calm and nurturing environment for them.

Finally….Ofsted, league tables and word of mouth are all different ways of picking a school for your child. We believe that walking around New Horizons Seaside Primary is probably the best way of deciding where your child spends the first seven years of their school life.

“As a parent, I couldn't be any more proud to say that I have three of my children attending Seaside. All of my children love going to school, they love their friendships, but also their relationships with their teachers. All three of my boys are thriving at school. They are all completely different in their learning, but they are still pushed to their full potential. All staff, from the lovely office ladies to the Headteacher are brilliant.”
